Group Classes

Group Classes

Group classes at Norlands Gundogs are ideal for those that want to move onto the next challenge of working in the company of other dogs. Colin has a huge amount of experience at competing, judging and picking up. With this knowledge he is able to help you achieve great results from your dog, whether for competition or work. Gundog training is also great for those who want to train their pet gundogs to be a more obedient family dog. Training dogs to do what they are bred to do is very rewarding for both the dog, handler and for the trainer.

We focus on building confidence in both the dog and the handler. We like to create a positive and relaxing environment for you and your dog to learn. Our aim is for you to both leave the session feeling good and that you have both learnt something from it. We set the dogs up for success and gradually increase the difficulty level to suit each dogs needs; we find that this is the key to getting great results. If things do go wrong and the dog fails we will assess the reason and then re-set the exercise to ensure the dog achieves next time; the exercise is then built up again, just a bit more slowly. Nothing is gained by rushing a dog’s early training and it’s important to remember that each dog develops and learns at a different rate from another; their training must be tailored to their individual needs and also the experience and skill set of the handler.

6 Week Courses

Classes will be split into the dogs and handlers ability level. If this is your first time with us we do require that you book in for a 1:1 session so that we can assess the most suitable level for you.  Classes will be run back to back to help those that have different level dogs to train. Parking is in the field so dogs can be safely left in the car.

Ensuring class sizes are not too large is really important for us as this ensures everyone gets enough retrieves and individual attention if required; for this reason we do require a commitment up front of a block of 6 classes which is payable in advance. This enables us to provide excellent quality training for you and your dogs.

Young Puppies and Complete Beginners

For puppies under 6 months old or dogs that require the basics we can offer classes at our ground in West End with Collette May as the trainer. Here is a link to her website which details when her classes and workshops are held. Collette specialises in modern methods of training gundogs which uses positive reinforcement.
